THERE'S MONEY IN THAT CHANGE $

I've spent a lot of time digging through my change jar, and I've realized just how easy it is to overlook old quarters that might actually have some value. Many of us toss coins into jars or pockets without a second thought, but some quarters can be worth more than their face value, especially if they're older or have unique features. If you take a moment to check your change, you could find quarters that collectors are interested in or that contain precious metals. Knowing what to look for can turn a simple coin hunt into a small treasure discovery right at home. 1941 Mercury Dime I always keep an eye out for the 1941 Mercury dime because it's quite common but still special. These dimes were made in large numbers, so finding one isn't too hard. What makes mine a bit more interesting is the condition and where it was minted. Proof versions from 1941 can be worth a bit more, often $100 or more if kept well. I make sure to store mine carefully to keep its value. 1932-D Washington Quarter I always keep an eye out for the 1932-D Washington quarter because it's one of the rarest in the series. Only 436,800 were minted, which is very low compared to other quarters. This coin was made to honor George Washington's 200th birthday, and collectors highly value it. I've seen some in excellent condition sell for tens of thousands of dollars. If you find one in your change jar, its value will depend a lot on its condition and whether the mint mark is clear. It's definitely a quarter worth checking closely. 1950 Franklin Half Dollar I always keep an eye out for the 1950 Franklin Half Dollar when checking my change jar. It's a cool coin with solid silver content that gives it some base value. While it's not the rarest, well-preserved pieces can be worth more than just the silver inside. Different mints and conditions affect its value, so I carefully look for those details.
1942-1945 Silver War Nickels I always keep an eye out for silver war nickels from 1942 to 1945. These nickels are special because they contain 35% silver, unlike regular nickels that are mostly copper and nickel. During World War II, nickel was needed for the war effort, so the U.S. Mint changed the composition. The wartime nickels have a large mintmark above Monticello, which helps me tell if one has silver. Finding one in your change could be worth more than just five cents because of the silver content. They're interesting coins with a real piece of history in them. 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar I always keep an eye out for the 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar in my change jar. This coin is special because it contains 90% silver, which gives it some intrinsic value beyond just being a quarter. Even common examples are worth more than their face value due to the silver content. Some rare versions and well-preserved coins can be worth significantly more, sometimes hundreds or even thousands of dollars if they are in exceptional condition. 1936 Standing Liberty Quarter I always find the 1936 Standing Liberty Quarter interesting because it was part of a brief revival after the design was mostly retired in 1930. This coin was one of the last to carry the Standing Liberty design before the Washington Quarter took over. If you come across one, it's worth noting because this design isn't as common in later years. Its value depends quite a bit on the condition, but it's definitely a neat piece of history to have in your collection. 1916 Mercury Dime The 1916 Mercury Dime is a fascinating coin to keep an eye out for, especially if you like silver coins. It was the first year the Mercury design was introduced, featuring Liberty with a winged cap. One of the reasons I find this dime interesting is the rare 1916-D version. Only 264,000 were minted, making it quite scarce compared to other years. Even if you find a regular 1916 Mercury Dime, it can still hold some value since it's 90% silver. I always check my change for these because you never know what might be hiding in there! HON BRIAN SCAVO
